Keeping momentum in your social media channels

Maintaining progress in Twitter, Facebook and Google+

It is now universally accepted that social media activity is not only important for patient engagement but also critical to support effective SEO. It is also expected that the weighting Google applies to social activity will increase as “shares”, “re-tweets” and “likes” start to complement back-links as an indication of a website’s relevance and authority.

Here are a couple of quick tips to help keep the process efficient and the momentum going….

  • use your blog as a content source – refer to your blog posts in your social media activity
  • recycle your content – not too often so that it becomes tedious but if its relevant and is worth “re-airing” then do it periodically
  • broadcast newsworthy events and personal interest stories, not just commercial content. A range of topics gives you broader scope
  • link your blog to your social channels – plugins are available for the popular WordPress platform which automatically post excerpts from your blog to your social channels. However, do this selectively and not “en masse”
  • use a social media management tool like Hootsuite to manage your profiles. Tools like this collate all of your streams into one admin. platform and allow you to post extremely efficiently
  • schedule your posts – some tools allow you to write your posts in advance and schedule their delivery. It is often more efficient to do this than to dip in and out of your accounts
  • aggregate your social streams on your smart phone – take the opportunity to post during unproductive time. It’s often more fun this way than during a busy schedule

And if you simply don’t have the time and resource within your team….
