Updates to Facebook and Twitter
Concise “need to know” for your dental marketing plans
A couple of recent announcements from Twitter and Facebook detailed some fairly significant changes. These updates are worth understanding as they may be useful in your dental practice marketing initiatives.
Here’s a quick run down:
Twitter layout change
Whilst Twitter isn’t delighting the financial commentators at the moment due to smaller than expected growth, it is still one of the most popular channels used for marketing purposes. Indeed, lots more dentists are now on Twitter and using it on a regular basis. Twitter has been fairly stagnant in its design for quite a while now but it recently unveiled a completely new format with features more akin to Facebook. With the click of a button you can now implement the following features:
- Larger cover photos and bio information
- Pinned tweets – you can now pin a tweet of your choice to the top of your profile
- “Best” tweets – tweets with higher engagement will show in a slightly larger font
- Better filtering options to reduce the clutter in the viewed feed
Take a look at the new features and experiment to see what best suits you. It’s certainly worth investing a little time to exploit the new enhanced profile features to ensure that your account is as engaging as possible.
Facebook mobile ad. network (“Audience Network”)
Facebook has announced potentially wide-reaching plans to serve adverts to third-party mobile apps. i.e. participating platforms; not the Facebook platform itself. This could be a huge money spinner for Facebook as marketers exploit the huge demographic targeting data that Facebook already holds. In fact this a huge selling point, with Facebook already making a big play of the targeting advantages it offers versus its rivals.
With the dash to all things mobile increasing at pace, the opportunities opened up to Facebook and the users of its new mobile ad. network are potentially significant.
As usual there are some associated privacy concerns with commentators suggesting that Facebook will need to be extremely careful about what data it actually shares with advertisers.
This is a real market disrupting opportunity for Facebook and one which is worth watching closely. We will also be measuring the potential for dental marketing via these new channels and making recommendations to our clients in the coming weeks.
